Underwriters Laboratories Inc., a reputable and independent non-profit entity, engages in drafting safety standards, conducts rigorous testing of products, and bestows certifications upon those that meet their stringent safety criteria. With over 800 safety standards in their repertoire, UL has tested and certified countless products and components, upholding the integrity of safety measures across various industries.
RoHS stands for “Restriction of Hazardous Substances,” a European directive that bans certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment within the EU from July 1, 2006. Its goal is to protect human health and the environment by reducing electronic waste toxicity. RoHS complements the WEEE Directive, which aims at recycling and recovering electrical goods, addressing the growing issue of electronic waste globally.
REACH is the European Union regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. It serves as the principal framework to safeguard human health and the environment from potential hazards posed by chemicals, while also promoting alternative methods for assessing chemical safety.
ETL, initially associated with ETL Testing Laboratories and now part of Intertek Testing Services, has a history dating back to 1896 in conducting electrical performance and reliability tests. The ETL and C-ETL marks are recognized in the United States and Canada as evidence of compliance with various national and international standards like ANSI, IEC, UL, and CSA. These marks signify that the product has been tested and meets essential safety requirements, with the manufacturing site undergoing regular reviews to ensure ongoing adherence to standards.
ISO 9001:2015 represents an internationally recognized standard that delineates the criteria for a comprehensive quality management system (QMS).
